Tobias & Co, Liverpool, gold fusee with rack lever escapement, 55mm, approximately 16K gold (tested, with fade of 18K solution on stone and no fade of 14K solution) OF original pair cases bearing Chester hallmarks for 1818, incuse "T.H J.H" marking for casemakers Thomas & John Helsby, white enamel dial with 15-second seconds-register, hacking slide outside dial at 7, KWKS, rack lever escapement, ornately engraved balance cock with "Patent" marking, gilt mvt with gilt locking dust-cap, s#4528 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 96.6 dwt (150.3 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticks sluggishly after a twist to start and stopping frequently at a consistent position of the seconds-hand, good hacking function, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine and micro-fine scratches; dial with hl from center to 9, short scratch within seconds-register, scattered edge flakes or small chips, small flakes to rim of center hole; excellent hands, hour and minute are blue, seconds-hand is plum colored; outer case shows light wear, two dents to bezel, scattered dings to rear, some play to hinge, latch is present but button is missing; inner case shows light wear, circumferential denting around sides, dents to lower left of rear edge, some additional dings or small dents elsewhere; bow pivots freely and has an evident soldered repair to its upper portion; good domed glass bull's-eye crystal.
